When veneers are placed, a thin layer of tissue is removed from the front of the tooth and replaced with a layer of composite (white filling material) or porcelain. Composite veneers require less grinding of the tooth and are generally much lower in cost than porcelain veneers. In addition, the installation can often be done in one sitting. A porcelain facing is made in the laboratory and usually requires two sittings. These facings are much harder, less sensitive to attack and do not discolour.
